Montour High School in McKees Rocks, Pa., received a 2022 Apples4Ed grant last week, which was presented by USApple’s Jim Bair and nearby grower Reed Soergel. The grant will help fund a system of hydroponic tower gardens in both the high school and local elementary school. “At the elementary level, the hydroponic tower gardens will be used to grow and harvest food and will supply our elementary students with nutrient-dense snacks combined with an opportunity to build a positive relationship with using food as a reward,” said school wellness educator Lizzy Buckholt. “In both the schools, our students will use these towers to learn how to grow and harvest their own food.”
