Kent City Elementary received an Apples4Ed grant and plans to use the funds to educate its students about the benefits and wonders of growing and cooking with fresh, healthy food. Kent City Elementary in Michigan is located in a farming community with little access to fresh produce due to recent grocery store closures. This grant would be the seed for a much-needed nutrition curriculum. The program will start with students learning how to plant and grow vegetables at school. When crops are harvested, the students will then get to taste their foods and experiment with cooking. Not only will the children be offered healthy options , but they’ll be armed with the skills they need to make good choices in the future.
